#DumpDeVos

I’m not sure if you’ve noticed, but I’ve been pretty quiet over here on the blog lately.  Life took over and suddenly I looked up from my own endless To Do List to see that there is a strong possibility that some billionaire who has never attended a public school, taught in a public school, sent a child to public school or studied the public school system might be in charge of PUBLIC SCHOOLS and yelled, “What the f*C%?!”

Lately, I have been running around as if my hair is on fire and I’m screaming about my hair being on fire but no one is listening to me and so it just keeps burning while a bunch of ding dongs in suits are actually divided about whether or not Betsy DeVos is qualified for this job.  Where is Ashton Kutcher telling us we are totally getting Punked?

WHAT IS HAPPENING?!

Am I alone?  And then I remembered, I have Mrs. Mimi.  I AM MRS. MIMI and we are going to fight this!

I went to public schools.  I send my children to public school.  I taught in public schools.  I currently work in public schools.  In fact, I have spent the last 20 years of my life dedicated to public education.  This person is dangerous for public education.  Her ideas (which are evidently based in frogs and snails and puppy dog tails as opposed to, you know, experience) undercut and undervalue the power and promise that is our nation’s public schools.

It is not too late, but you can not act too soon.  The Powers That Be are set to vote on Betsy by the end of this week and it is THURSDAY.  You barely have time to finish reading this post, but please do because I am begging you to take action.

GOP Senator Lisa Murkowski and GOP Senator Susan Collins both said that calls to their offices against DeVos were a major reason why they are voting against her nomination.  Several other Senators are said to be on the fence – LET’S PUSH THEM ON TO THE SIDE OF PUBLIC SCHOOLS AND FLOOD THEIR OFFICE WITH CALLS.  See below for names and numbers.  I promise, it’s easy.  Once a staffer answers the phone, just state in your most powerful teacher voice, “I want to be clear that I am against the nomination of Betsy DeVos for Secretary of Education.”  And then give the phone your best teacher look.  Can’t hurt.

If you know of other Senators who may be on the fence or have alternative numbers to contact them, please share below.  WE CAN DO THIS!
