Drumroll, Please
Friends. I am not even sure how to announce this properly (although secretly, I want to strap on my most fabulous heels and scream it from the roof tops).
Let’s see…how shall I begin? I’ve been, uh, up to something for the last few months. You see one day, a fabulous publishing company (with excellent taste and an eye for humor if you ask me) wrote Mrs. Mimi a little email containing thirteen very special words: “Would you be interested in getting your blog out to a larger audience?”
To which I brilliantly replied, “Is this some sort of joke?”
The answer, friends, is no, it was not a joke. And thank goodness the lovely people at Kaplan Publishing have a good sense of humor because that email could have gone horribly wrong.
And so today I would like to announce that I, Mrs. Mimi have a book coming out in September!
(Is your heart pounding, because mine is going a mile a minute!!! And I might be sweating…a little.)
(Excuse me while I do a small celebratory dance around my computer desk.)
Before I continue, I want to (seriously) thank all of my super loyal and equally fabulous readers. Your support, hilarious comments and interest kept me posting through some tough times. Starting and maintaining this blog has been a wonderful, and surprising, new outlet for me. From the bottom of my heart/favorite pair of Manolos, thank you.
Click here for a sneak peek of the introduction and two chapters.
(I’ll pause while you read. Maybe I will saunter to the kitchen and get myself a cocktail too…care to join me?)
(Oh, and, you know…just for ha has I thought I would also mention that it’s already up for sale on Amazon among other websites. Every time I look at it sitting there on line, I get goosebumps!)
Do you love it?
Jennifer
Shut UP!!!
That's all I can think to say! Wow! Unreal! You're the Dooce of teachers.

I LOVE it!! Can't wait until my copy arrives!
Don't you just want to slap some people who are not teachers?
Thanks so much for letting us know we are not alone š
Franki
Great news! I can't wait to read it:-)

Nicolasa
This is amazing! I have been following your blog for awhile now and it always leave me with a belly ache and many head nods in agreement! I can't wait to read the rest of your book!
Jennifer Julia Lewis
I found it this morning and ordered a copy right away! I am so excited!!!My only sadness is that it is coming out after school has started here in the South. I was hoping to fortify myself for the coming year. Instead, I will use it to remind me why we do what we do and I am not the only frustrated one out there. Congratulations!
Mrs. Ryder
I am rather new to this blog and I think it is hilarious. Love reading the stories, as a matter of fact I was up to 1:30am reading your funny stories the other night. However, if you are publishing a book, I guess your blog is not a secret to your co-workers anymore. Are you no longer anonymous?
Mimi
Whoo hoo!!! Pumped that everyone is so excited! As for being anonymous, I will always be "Mrs. Mimi" when I write.
Thanks everyone!
Alyssa
Awesome! So excited for you! I just pre-ordered my copy!
Monkey
I guess your time is up in the trenches? Certainly the Weave and Bacon Hunter will be on the dedication page?
I am very happy for you, but sad for the kids. It seems like good teachers almost always leave, and that leaves us "super colleagues" and kids in a lurch.
Try to use your new power as an education superstar to get more limits on who can work in education. Would a more selective hiring process make everything so much easier?
Mimi
Monkey- Have no fear…I am in NO WAY leaving classrooms forever. My heart belongs there – armed with a stapler and some scratch-n-sniff stickers. Besides, what would I blog about??
Erica Stianchi
Oh my goodness…I was laughing out loud the entire time I read the sneak peak. I half wish I didn't read it because now how will I wait until the book is released?! I am definitely ordering this for several teacher friends who need to know that they are not the only ones who feel that special teacher way.
Do The Weave and the Bacon Hunter know about this?
jerel
Do I love it? I more than love it? I LOOOOOOOVE it!!! I know all of my colleagues will love their own copies. š
Emily
Oh my goodness!!! That is SO AWESOME!!! WOW!!! š
Bonnie
Looking forward to it. Congrats!
Emily
P.S. I totally thought you were going to say that a little Mrs. Mimi was on the way. š
Miss Eyre
Congratulations and all the best!
HistoryTeacher
Congratulations! Absolutely cannot wait – I WILL NOT be grading papers the weekend I get my copy!
WonderWeiss
Yea! Now I can just hand my super colleagues a copy and quit relating your fab stories second hand! I think I'll get one for the teachers' lounge too, it may give some whiners something else to do!
ChiTown Girl
Oh my hell!!!! I'm so excited for you!! Congratulations!
Rebecca
I'm so excited to pre-order a copy!!! Yea Kaplan for seeing your writing genius! š

Hooray! I'm very excited to read the rest of it. I've been following your blog for a while now, and it never fails to crack me up! Also, it happens to come out just in time for my best friend's birthday (she's a kindergarten teacher). It will make a perfect gift. š

Mr. Talk
Congrats and all the best to you. I just posted about your success on my own blog, and now I am off to buy a copy of your book. Just letting you know so that you can watch the Amazon rankings change! (right now, you're at 15,490…we can do better!)

This is so exciting. I've been writing down my crazy teacher stories for the past few years as a way of keeping sane. When I finally put them on a blog my friend told me about your blog because she thought they were kind of similar.
I have been spending the last few days reading through it. I am enjoying it a lot! I swear I work with some of your co-workers haha.
Congrats!

That is totally awesome! I love your humor and the opportunity to share mine with you on your blog. I'd do a cartwheel for, if I thought I wouldn't hurt myself! Mental cartwheel instead! :^)
17 (really 15) more years
Congratulations on the book and thank you for the plug in the Gotham School interview. Your book is going to be the next "Up the Down Staircase"- I just know it.
I only want to know one thing- when's the movie deal? I'm thinking Anne Hathaway in the starring role of Mrs. Mimi……
Marcy
Someone in my Twitter network tweeted the good news re; your book deal. I don't read your blog, but, I just wanted to come over and say, "congratulations!"
Mister Teacher
Congratulations!!! I will admit (sadly) that I hadn't stopped by to read your blog in a while, but I actually saw the cover of your book pop up on the side bar as "You might also enjoy…" from the page on MY book!
Wow, a publisher contacted YOU about writing a book (instead of the other way around)! That is awesome! And I will freely state that I'm a little jealous! š
Oh, and while I'm "admitting" things. . . saw your author page on Amazon, and thought, "She's pretty darn cute!" š
Congrats again and I wish lots and lots of success upon you.
Lesbrarian
Congratulations!! I love reading your blog, and I can't wait to read your book. And how perfect is it that Amazon has your book bundled with dry erase markers? "Frequently Bought Together" indeed! It would only be better if they were the retractable kind…
John Spencer
Congratulations!
I've read your blog for a long time and it's cool to see how it's grown into something bigger.
Mrs. Stianchi
While I'm aware this is an older post, I just got the book delivered from Amazon a few days ago and read it right away! I had to leave a comment in this post because that would just be super unorganized of me to leave it in an unrelated, yet newer area!
It is now currently circling around with a select group of "Super Colleagues." All I can say is…wow, I literally "LOL"ed throughout your book, thinking "Oh man, I didn't know that happened to other people." or "Hey, was she secretly in my room?" Mrs. Mimi, it was FAB! It's funny that our schools and experiences are so similar when I teach in a very different climate than you (read: upper middle/upper class families who often look at me like I have 3 heads when I suggest THEY check their kid's homework NOT their nannies!). It just goes to show…money doesn't buy happiness!
As I was contemplating who would love the book yet be discreet enough about leaving it lying on top of their desk, I thought of photocopying a few sections and sneaking it into the mailboxes of our own Fanny Pack and Miss Know It All….and then it dawned on me: They would either a) have NO idea that I was giving them a giant hint, b) complain they have something ELSE to read, or c) burst into a teacher's room IN THE MIDDLE OF A LESSON and proceed to tell the teacher all about this funny note in their box
{sigh…not worth it}
Teacher
SOOOOO AMAZING! I haven't been around for the summer… or even months before the summer… But I took a moment today to do a little catching up and I am sooooo incredibly excited to see YOU have a book on Amazon! I cannot wait to run down the block to see if it's in the Barnes and Nobles in my neighborhood (which I think I'll do about 2 seconds after I type this message!)
