It Was Only A Matter Of Time…

I’ll admit it.  “My name is Mrs. Mimi and I enjoy watching bad reality TV.”

“Hi Mrs. Mimi!”

There.  That feels so much better.  I know I’ve admitted my obsession for all things Golden Girls to you in the past, but this….this I’ve tried to keep to myself.  Kind of my dirty little secret. I mean, I’m a doctoral candidate – shouldn’t I be watching CNN or CSPAN or some other network with a news ticker running across the bottom, thereby denoting it’s seriousness?

I don’t scrape the bottom of the reality barrel, however.  I can no longer stand Flava Flav (although I have been known to pour a little bit of my drink out for my peeps from time to time), refuse to watch any sort of For The Love of Some Douche With a Record Deal and am very proud to say that I have never watched a nano-second of Jersey Shore.  For real.  BUUUUUTTTTT…give me some Housewives, a little America’s Next Top Model, a blissful hour of Project Runway, or maybe a bit of The City and, more recently, all things Top Chef and I’m hooked.

Too much information?  Are you about to click elsewhere?  Hit “unsubscribe”?

ANYHOW the point of all this…word on the street is that this fall A&E will be debuting a reality show called “Classroom Intervention” which will follow the struggles of classroom teachers and their (duh) subsequent intervention.  Each episode will feature a different teacher struggling in the classroom – some newbies, some veterans.  (Um, hello, if you happen to read this Fanny Pack, can you sign up, like IMMEDIATELY???)

Evidently you can nominate yourself OR A COLLEAGUE.

Hi, awkward, nice to meet you.

I’m picturing a crew of cameras, hosts and light people bombarding some unsuspecting teacher in the hallway…yikes.

While I am totally intrigued and will definitely tune in, I have a feeling that this may do more harm for our image than good.

If only there was a show where teachers could intervene with the Powers That Be and show them what’s what…now THAT would be good television!

UPDATE- Evidently this whole thing was a hoax put on by some fool who thought it would be funny.  Granted, it was something to talk about and none of us got all worked up but, honestly?  Someone needs more to do.  Crisis averted for now, friends!

  • What happened to the Tony Danza show that was supposed to show him teaching in Philly? They never aired that yet, so I won't hold my breath for this show. 😉 Though I would TOTALLY nominate Fashionista!

  • This could be brutal – I think they ought to start with the higher-ups first. Is this the show for people who must have their x number of moments of fame? If those who need help won't/can't work with the competent ones on staff, how will being in the glaring spotlight help them? Clear the tracks – there might be a train wreck coming our way…

  • Sounds like baaaaad juju. People will look at those teachers as examples of why reform is needed and judge us ALL by them. I can take jabs at the Jersey Shore (I live there), but knocking down the career I sacrifice so much for….no thanks!

  • This sounds like a terrible, horrible, no good, very bad idea.

Nothing good will come of this.

  • I shall shamelessly watch this show. I will love and hate it simultaneously. I only wish we were in the same state so we could get together to watch it and have running commentary…

  • It's a hoax folks.

  • Nothing good will come of that show. I will watch it, and hate it, and curse and yell and maybe even cry.

Having inspirational stories about great teachers just doesn't make for good TV.

We know that; we watch ANTM. Sigh.

  • Mimi – so I was blissfully (aka wanting to poke my eye out) sitting through a DIBELS training when presenter man shared the greatest reality tv show idea I've ever heard. Think Wife Swap for teachers. So sister friend who's always complaining about your staff, budget, what have you switches with a teacher from another area. Brilliant don't you think? Just had to share.
