Update-o-Rama

Update #1 – The plants are growing!! Whoo hoo – someone get me a cocktail! We planted sunflower seeds last week and I walked in this morning to see cup after cup with sprouting little plants! Now if we can just keep them alive (and the mice away from them) until they go home before spring break…

Update #2 – There are two more school days before our break starts. Wait…are those birds I hear chirping? Is the sun suddenly shining? Is that a rainbow?!?

Update #3 – Me vs. The Bacon Hunter 2009. A few quick bullet points and then I have to go get my plan on. 1) She still sucks. 2) I did not have to submit my lesson plans. 3). I have not seen in her in over a week. That’s not true, I have seen her skank into closets and offices…I think she might be avoiding yours truly and my Super Colleagues. 4). We are meeting with her this week (insert ominous music here).

Update #4 – What would you think about Mrs. Mimi having her very own B-O-O-K??

  • You could have a whole series of Mrs.Mimi books like Madea!!LOL

Well, I would seriously read it.

    Hells to the yes yes.

Being a 2nd grade teacher is seriously becoming a tempting career choice in my book. I loved all the reading I did when I was in 2nd grade.

Will you be an interview participant in an interview series with tachers I am doing? Go read my post on my blog. I hope it makes it to the Carnival of Education!!

  • I love the idea. However, I’d toss out a book idea just as a thought:

a graphic novel based upon your blog – a sort-of superhero as a teacher concept. Just think about it.

How about we start talking about getting a movie deal going as well….

  • Go book! As a teacher, I really love this blog- even though everything about our positions are different. I feel you really capture the angst of teaching and the push/pull between desire to help kids and all of the administrative factors that work against us.

  • Delurking to cast my YES vote for a Miss Mimi book!

My mother has been a teacher for almost 25 years. Sheā€™s taught in a variety of different schools (public and private), in several different states, and ranging in ages from 5 to 18. I am certain that she adored every single one of those kids and truly loved her role as a educator to them. Sheā€™d always tutor after school and work diligently on weeknights grading tests or science reports. Her weekends and lots of summers were spent designing new and interesting projects to challenge her kids, or sheā€™d read up on new techniques for teaching math concepts. Unfortunately, itā€™s always been the administration in each school (and sometimes parents) that have been the greatest tests of her strength.

Every evening at the dinner table, sheā€™d regale us with tales, trauma, and tears from the trenches. In my youth, I barely tolerated it and just figured my mom was oversensitive and a bit dramatic. Now that Iā€™m in my 30s, Iā€™ve come to understand how her itā€™s her frustrations with not her kids, but with OTHER ADULTS whoā€™ve been sapping her of her love for teaching.

Your blog, Miss Mimi, really brings the reality of teachers to those who arenā€™t ā€œin the industry.ā€ Not a teacher myself, Iā€™ve come to have an even greater appreciation and respect for teachers through reading your experiences and thoughts. I think any book authored by you in the same spirit of your blog writings would not only reach other teachers, but also parents and those who liken teachers to ā€œglorified babysitters with too much vacationā€. I think youā€™d do a great service to your profession by penning a book!

  • So you wrote a book? Congratulations. That is quite an accomplishment. Have you published it yet? Are you having any luck in that area? I just got mine published and it was an interesting journey. Would love to hear more about your experiences.

  • Your own book?!??! That would be fantastic!!! You could really put these columns together into a book, sort of like Rick Reilly does with his columns from Sports Illustrated.

(This is my first post…I am usually just a lurker…but I want to tell you how much I seriously enjoy your blog. It brings a smile to my day and makes me laugh more about the funny things that happen with my kiddos. Please keep it up. I wish you all the best!)

  • I would agree with the book idea. Reading your blog reminds me of my own school sometimes, and it’s nice to feel like I’m not the only one dealing with this stuff. I hope it all goes better with the bacon hunter. I hate having conflicts with my administrators.
